Applying for a UK Visa from the Philippines
If you are a citizen of the Philippines and you are planning on going to the United Kingdom, you will need to apply for a visa to be able to enter and stay in the UK. This visa will permit you to stay in the UK for up to 6 months.
To apply for a UK visa, you will need to:
- Research your visa type
- Apply for your visa through www.gov.uk
- Pay your visa fees
- Choose your services
- Upload your supporting documents
- Visit the visa application center. VFS Global has offices in Cebu and Manila
- Track your application
- Pick up your documents
To be eligible for a UK visa, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must leave the UK at the end of your visit
- You must be able to support yourself and any dependents for the duration of your trip
- You must be able to pay for your return or onward journey and any other costs relating to your visit
- You must have proof of any business or other activities you want to do in the UK

Types of visas for the United Kingdom
There are different types of visas for the UK. You must apply for the correct one depending on why you want to travel to the UK:
- Standard Visitor Visa – if you are going to the UK on holiday or to see your family and friends, for business or private medical treatment
- Marriage Visitor Visa – if you are planning on getting married
- Permitted Paid Engagement Visa – if you want to do specific paid work
- Parent of a Tier 4 Child Visa – if your child attends an independent fee-paying day school
- Visit the UK in a Chinese Tour Group – for up to 30 days as part of a tour group through the approved destination status agreement (ADS) (Chinese citizens only)
- Visa to Pass through the UK in Transit – if you are en-route to a different country via the UK. There are 2 types of transit visa; Direct Airside Transit visa and Visitor in Transit visa

If you are planning to go to the UK on holiday, then you would apply for the Standard Visitor Visa which will be issued as either:
- Single entry – you will be permitted to enter the UK once during the visa dates
- Multiple entry – you will be permitted to enter the UK as many times as you wish before the visa expires
If you want to stay longer than 6 months, you can apply for a multiple entry visa for up to 2, 5 or 10 years. Check the UK visa and immigration website for further information.
The UK Visa Application Process
Visa applications are processed within 15 working days from the date you submit your application to VFS Global in either Manila or Cebu. You can submit your application up to 3 months ahead of your departure date. It’s important to allow plenty of time for your application to be processed.
How to apply for a UK visa from the Philippines
To apply for your UK visa from the Philippines, follow these steps.
Step 1 – Research your visa type
You can check which visa you will need for the UK. Go to VFS Global’s website and click on the link. You will be directed to www.gov.uk:

Once you know which visa you need, you can start the application process by clicking on the link:

When you are ready to start your application, go to www.gov.uk and click on “Visas and Immigration”:
On the next page, click on “Visit the UK”:
Next, click on “Visit the UK for a holiday or to see family or friends”:
Scroll down to “Apply for a Visa” and click on “Find out how to apply for a Standard Visitor Visa”:

Before starting your online application, you’ll need to answer the questions on the UK visa and immigration website. First, click on “Apply now”:

To apply online for your visa application, you must do the following things:
- Register your application
- Complete the visa application form
- Upload your documents

Step 3 – Pay your visa fees

Step 5 – Upload your supporting documents
When applying for a UK visa, there are certain documents that you have to provide.
All documents must be originals. No photocopies will be accepted.
If you submit a document that is not in English or Welsh, it must be accompanied by a full translation. Each translated document must contain:
- Confirmation from the translator that it is an accurate translation of the original document
- The date of the translation
- The translator’s full name and signature
- The translator’s contact details
Documents include:
- Valid passport or other document that allows the holder to travel internationally
- Previous travel documents/passports, which show previous travel
- Proof of sufficient funds – bank statements or letter from relative etc
- Proof of earnings such as a letter from employer confirming employment details (start date of employment, salary, role, company contact details)
- Confirmation of legal residence
- Proof of flight reservation (when you complete your application, the document checklist will specify whether you need to provide this document)
- Proof of accommodation such as a hotel booking (when you complete your application, the document checklist will specify whether you need to provide this document)
- Details of employment or studies – a letter from your employer or education provider. If self-employed: business registration documents
- Proof of any business activities (if applicable)
- Under 18s – birth certificate, parent’s authority to travel alone and parent’s passport
- Letter from doctor with details of medical treatment (if applicable)
- Letter of invitation from event organisers, relatives, company etc
- Marriage certificate
The documents required are different for each type of visa, so you should find out what these are before submitting your application. If you fail to provide all the necessary paperwork, it could jeopardize your visa application.
As part of the online application process, you can upload your documents yourself. If you do this, you will receive a document checklist which you will need to keep to hand over to the visa application center when you attend your appointment.

If you’re planning to obtain your flight reservation for visa without paying for the ticket, all you have to do is follow the 3 simple steps below:
- Visit the Visa Reservation website to choose the right package
- Submit the travel details and make the payment online
- Receive flight itinerary in email
Step 6 – Visit the visa application center
On the day you visit the application center, remember the following things:
- You must attend the appointment for your visa application. You cannot send someone in your place
- Arrive 15 minutes early
- Take the document checklist (which you would have received as part of your online application)
- Take a valid passport or travel document with at least 1 page that is blank on both sides
- Upload your documents yourself or use the document scanning service if you have purchased this
You will also submit your fingerprints and photograph. This is known as biometric information and is required for your visa application to be processed.
Step 7 – Track your application
Once you have submitted your application and documents and after you have attended your appointment, you can track your application. You will receive an email when a decision has been made and your passport has been returned to the visa application center. If you want more detailed tracking information, you can choose VFS Global’s SMS service.
Step 8 – Pick up your documents
- Collect your passport – if you choose to do this, you need to take the receipt issued by the visa application center and a form of government identification
- Have your passport returned by courier – if you choose this service, there will be an additional fee of PHP 690. See the website for more information
The outcome of your application will be either:
- Approved – your visa will be attached to your passport and will show the type of visa granted, the dates your visa is valid and any conditions you need to meet, for example, no work or unable to claim benefits. If you notice any errors with the visa, you must report it to UK visas and immigration immediately
- Rejected – you will receive an explanation as to why your application was refused and will explain whether you have the right to an administrative review or an immigration decision appeal
The following reasons may result in a rejected application:
- No invitation letter – if you are being invited to the UK by a person or a company, you must provide an invitation letter
- Insufficient funds – you must be able to pay for your trip or prove that you will be receiving financial support while you are in the UK
- Passport is out of date – make sure your passport is still valid for travel. If not, you must obtain a new one before applying for your visa
