Applying for a Spain Schengen Visa from India
Applying for a visa to go to Spain is easy, but you must meet the following regulations:
- You must be a natural citizen of India
- You must have a legal right to live in India
As part of your application, you may be expected to prove your residency status. For non-Indian nations, if you can’t do this, you must apply from your home country.
There are two missions that decide whether to approve or reject visa applications. They are:
Depending where you live will determine which mission will deal with your application.
The embassy in New Delhi has jurisdiction over the following areas:
- Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and a number of States and Union Territories of India: Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Punjab, Bihar, Meghalaya, Chandigarh, Jharkhand, Manipur, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Tripura, Haryana, Odisha, Mizoram, Delhi NCR, Sikkim, Lakshadweep Island, Rajasthan, Ladakh, Assam, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands
The consulate in Mumbai has jurisdiction over the following areas:
- Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujurat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharastra, Tamil Nadu, Dagra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Puducherry and Telangana
The embassy & consulate have outsourced the receipt of visa applications to BLS International which means you will submit your application to one of their offices located across India.
Once you have submitted your application to BLS, it will be sent to the embassy/consulate the next working day. It will then take the embassy/consulate 1-4 days to reach a decision. However, it could take as many as 15 days, so you must take that into account when you apply. A general rule would be to apply at least 15 days ahead of your departure date, but the earlier, the better. You can apply up to 6 months in advance, so don’t leave it too late. The embassy/consulate will accept no responsibility for applications that have not been submitted in time.
Types of Schengen visas offered at The Embassy of Spain/ The Consulate General of Spain in India
There are 3 types of visas you can apply for and it is your responsibility to choose the right one:

- National visa – for trips of more than 90 days for employment, study/training, family reunion etc. See the embassy’s website for more information. If you are applying for a long-stay visa, applications are submitted directly to the embassy/consulate. BLS International does NOT accept these applications
