Applying for a Slovakia Schengen Visa from Nigeria
If you are planning on going to Slovakia, you will need to apply for a visa. You can do this as long as you can prove you are a citizen of Nigeria or you have the legal right to live in Nigeria.
Slovakia does not have an embassy in Nigeria. Instead, the Embassy of Sweden represents Slovakia which means that this embassy process visa applications. However, you will submit your application to VFS Global based in Abuja or Lagos.
You may apply for your visa up to 6 months in advance and applications are usually processed in 15 days.

Step 1 – Identify visa type

Supporting documents
There are document checklists on VFS Global’s website which you can find under “documents required”. Make sure you know what the requirements are before you submit your application. You should also prepare photocopies as well as providing the original documents, so don’t forget to do that too!
Documents include:
- A completed application form and fully completed Family appendix Questionnaire for visa. The application form needs to be signed twice
- Proof of payment of the visa fee (s)
- Passport photograph not older than three months
- Two colored copies of your passport data page
- Passport with at least 2 blank pages and be valid for at least 3 months past your departure date and must have been issued within the last 10 years
- Flight reservation including return flight specifying entry and exit dates from the Schengen state
- A signed letter from your employer stating continuing employment after duration of vacation.
- Proof of accommodation – during your entire visit such as a Hotel reservation
- For children under 18: parents’ ID or parental written consent & documentation from school confirming attendance
- If you are going to visit relatives or friends you must submit: invitation letter from the host
- Business Appendix form if traveling for business
- Valid Nigerian resident permit
- Proof of funds available Bank statements for the last three months (no older than two weeks at the time of submission). If another person is supporting your stay, a letter from the person should be attached, stating the same
- Travel medical insurance a one-page document stating that the insurance is to cover medical costs of at least EUR 30,000 and be valid for the whole duration of stay and in all Schengen states

Step 3 – Book an appointment
Making appointments with the embassy or visa application center is generally free and can be done yourself. The visa fee should only be paid at the time of submission of the documents at the application center. VFS’ service fee needs to be paid while booking the appointment online. All fees are non-refundable.
Step 5 – Visit a visa application center
When you visit VFS Global for your appointment, there are a few things to remember:
- Aim to arrive 15 minutes before your appointment
- You must attend the appointment in-person
- Take a copy of your visa application, as well as a valid passport or travel document
- Take all supporting documentation (originals and copies)
At the center, you will hand over your application and supporting documents and provide biometric information (fingerprints and photograph).
As part of the application process, you may be asked questions if the embassy needs further information. Typical questions include:
- Have you been to Slovakia before?
- Do you know anyone in Slovakia?
- Are you going to work in Europe?

Step 6 – Track your application
You can track the progress of your application by going to VFS Global’s website and clicking on the link under “Step 6 – Track your application”:

Step 7 – Collect your passport
After a visa application decision has been made, you can pick up your passport from VFS Global or have your passport returned to you by courier for an additional fee. If you collect your passport, remember to take the receipt issued by VFS and some ID.
The decision will be either:
- Approved – you will find your visa attached to one of the pages in your passport
- Rejected – you can appeal the decision. Speak to VFS Global for more information
Common rejection reasons include:
- Documents missing – it is your responsibility to make sure you submit all documents required, so check what the requirements are for your visa application
- Travel insurance does not cover all of the Schengen States – the travel insurance must provide cover in all of the Schengen States, not just the one you are going to
- Passport is out of date – your passport must be valid. Check that it is not out of date before applying for your visa
- You only provided 1 month’s bank statement – you need to provide at least 3 months bank statements so the embassy can check that you can afford your trip

Entry requirements
All persons over twelve years, are obliged to register on the website www.korona.gov.sk/ehranica immediately upon entering Slovakia which you will need to present to authorities should they request it.
All persons entering Slovakia are obliged to fill in an electronic passenger locator form on the website www.mindop.sk/covid
All persons entering Slovakia should present an EU Digital Covid Certificate or national certificate of a third country, which must include your name and surname, date of birth, name of the vaccine and its manufacturers, the order of
vaccination and the total number of vaccinations with that substance and the date of last vaccination. The national certificate must bear a stamp of the authorized body of the country concerned or be electronically verifiable and
must be issued also in English language.
From 1st December 2021, anyone going to Slovakia, is ordered to isolation at home or in a quarantine accommodation facility for 10 days. Quarantine can end early if you receive a negative result of an RT–PCR test for COVID–19 which can be taken on the 5th day.
