Schengen Visa Fee 2020 – How Much Does it Cost
With effect from 2nd February 2020, if your planning on traveling to any of the Schengen countries you will have to adhere to changes in Schengen visa application rules. This is due to amendments being made to the visa code regulation by the EU Council in an attempt to:
” …improve conditions for legitimate travellers, as well as increase the tools available to respond to the challenges posed by illegal migration” – EU Council
These amendments include an increase in visa fees for the Schengen Area to cover the cost of processing visa applications.

Schengen Visa Fees in 2020
When you apply for a Schengen visa, you’ll attend an appointment in order to submit your application to the embassy/consulate you are dealing with. As part of this appointment, you will be asked to pay a fee.
Visa Type | Old fees in EUR | New fees in EUR |
Schengen visa | 60 | 80 |
Schengen visa child 6-12 years | 35 | 40 |
Schengen visa child 0-6 years | Free of charge | Free of charge |
You will continue pay the visa fee in your local currency. For example, if you live in the US, you’ll pay in dollars or Pounds sterling if you live in the UK.
Fees can be paid by cash, debit or credit card, money order, cashiers check but you should check with the embassy/consulate as to which payment methods are available.
Other fees
There may be other fees to pay as part of your Schengen visa application. For example, some embassies or consulates will charge a mailing or courier fee if you wish your passport to be returned to you by mail rather than picking it up from the visa office.
Also, some embassies/consulates outsource the receipt of visa applications to visa application center and there will be an additional fee to pay and you can check the website of the center if this applies to you.
All fees are non-refundable even if your application is rejected. This is because the embassy/consulate still has to process your application, so don’t expect a refund if your application is refused.
So, remember if you are traveling to the Schengen Area after 2nd February 2020, you will have to pay the increased fee, but it’s a small price to pay if you think about all the wonderful destinations a Schengen visa will allow you to visit!
