If you need a visa for France, you must be a citizen of the country you are applying from or have a legal right to live there. Either way, you will need documents to prove this.

A Schengen visa will permit you to stay in France for a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period, plenty of time to enjoy the Summer Olympics.

    Types of Visa for France

There are several visas that you can apply for if you want to go to France:

Where to apply for a France Schengen visa

There should be a French Embassy in the country you are applying for a Schengen visa from and it is the embassy that makes the decision about whether to accept a visa application or not. However, depending on where you are applying from, you will submit your application to one of the following visa application centers:

    1. VLS Global
    2. TLS Contact
    3. The consular department of the French Embassy
    4. Capago International in your location

The official website for France is called France-Visas and this is where you will complete a number of steps when applying for your visa:

    1. Do I need a visa?
    2. Complete your application online
    3. Submit your application to the visa center
    4. Track your visa application

    Do I need a visa?

The first thing you should do is check whether you need a visa or not. You can use the wizard on France-Visas website by inputting the relevant information to determine this.

    3. 2 photos – make sure the photos meet the specifications

Fill in all the required information and when you have finished, print the application form as you will need to take this with you to submit to one of the visa application centers.

Submit your application to the visa center

You will not be able to submit your application to the visa center without an appointment, so you should do that next.

Making appointments with the embassy or visa application center is generally free and can be done yourself. The decision will be either:

    1. Approved – you will find your visa inside your passport
