Applying for a Norway Schengen Visa from the Philippines

If you want to visit Norway and you are based in the Philippines either as a citizen or you have a visa to live there permanently, you will need to apply for a visa.

VFS Global in Manila and Cebu are authorized by the visa authorities to accept visa applications. However, VFS Global does not make decisions about whether to grant visas or not. This responsibility falls to the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok.

It takes around 15 days for applications to be processed, so you should apply no later than 15 days before your trip. It is recommended that you apply at least 4 weeks in advance due to courier services between countries. You may apply up to 6 months before, so the earlier the better!

Types of Schengen visas offered at VFS Global/the Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok

There are many reasons why you may choose to go to Norway such as on holiday or to visit family or friends. Whatever your reason, you must apply for the correct visa. The embassy has checklists for the different visas available and the one you will apply for will depend on why you are going to Norway and how long you are going for.

After a visa application decision has been made, you can pick up your passport from VFS Global or have it returned to you by courier for an additional fee. If you choose to collect your documents, you need to take your receipt and ID.

    The decision will be either:

    1. Approved – your visa will be inside your passport. You should check the details on the visa sticker. If there are any errors, you should notify VFS Global or the embassy as soon as you can
    2. Rejected – this would have been for a specific reason and you can appeal the decision

Visa applications can get rejected for a variety of reasons. Common rejection reasons include:

    1. Invalid passport – your passport should valid for at least 3 months past your trip, have 2 blank pages and it must be issued within the last 10 years. If not, you should get a new one before applying for your visa
    2. No bank statements – you must be able to prove that you can afford your trip and bank or credit card statements are required to do this
    3. No business registration document – if you are self-employed, one of the documents required is your business registration, so don’t forget to include that in your supporting paperwork
    4. Your intent to return to the Philippines is not clear – you cannot stay in Norway indefinitely, you must return home before your visa expires. You must be clear when you apply that you intend to do so
