Applying for a Norway Schengen Visa from India
To apply for your Norway visa, you must submit an application to VFS Global which has offices across India. The Embassy of Norway is responsible for processing visa applications and, once submitted, VFS Global will send your application to the embassy’s office in New Delhi.
As part of your application, you must be able to prove that you are a citizen of India or you have the legal right to live in India.
You should apply no later than 15 days before you plan to travel as the processing time is up to 15 days. However, because your application is sent by courier from VFS Global to the embassy, it is recommended that you apply at least 4 weeks before your planned departure. You may submit your application up to six months before, so don’t leave it too late!

The decision will be either:
- Accepted – you will find your visa in your passport. You should check that the details of the visa are correct. If not, you should tell VFS immediately
- Rejected – if your application for a visa has been refused, you will be notified of the reason and you can appeal the decision. See the embassy’s website for more information
There are different reasons why an application may get rejected:
- Invitation letter not submitted – if you are being invited to stay with someone or to attend a meeting in Norway, you must provide an invitation letter
- Passport does not have 2 blank pages – your passport must have 2 blank pages for the visa to be attached. If not, you must get a new one before making an application for a visa
- The embassy is not sure you will return to India before the visa expires – a visa will allow you to stay in a country for a specific time and you must provide clear evidence of your intention to return to your home country before the visa expires
- Lack of funds – you must be able to afford your trip to Norway and your journey home. Therefore, you must provide bank statements to prove this
