    If you were born in Canada, you can visit Slovenia without a visa for up to 90 days. If you were not born in Canada, you must apply for a visa to go to Slovenia. It’s easy to do from Canada as long as you can prove your legal right to remain in the country. If not, you must apply from your home country.

    You can apply at either:

    1. The Embassy of Slovenia in Ottawa
    2. The Consulate General of Switzerland in Vancouver if you live in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, North West Territories, and Yukon

    There are 3 types of visa that you can apply for:

    1. Short-term visa (A) (airport transit visa): Authorizes the holder to enter the international zone of the airport and to remain there until the time of the departure of the flight to the destination country
    2. Short-term Schengen visa (C): For holidays, business and visits to family and friends for a maximum of 90 days

    You can submit a visa application no earlier than 3 months and no later than 15 days before your departure date. If you apply less than 15 days before the journey, your application may not be processed in time, particularly during busy periods.

    Visa applications are processed within 15 calendar days, however, in some cases, it could take up to 30 – 60 days.

    Step 2: Make an appointment

    Step 3: Prepare your documents

    There is a list of documents on the embassy’s website, so check this out before you start this step. It’s important that you submit all the documents required to avoid your application from being rejected.

    You should also prepare photocopies as well as providing the original documents, so don’t forget to do that too!

    Documents include:

    1. Visa application form – duly and legibly completed, signed, and dated
    2. Recent passport photograph
    3. Passport  – must be valid for at least three months after the date of departure from the Schengen zone, at least two empty pages and issued no more than 10 years ago
    4. Permanent residency card or original documents stating legal status in Canada
    5. Marriage/birth certificate and proof of citizenship of family member with EU citizenship
    6. Flight reservation – you may be required to present the original ticket when collecting the visa
    7. Schengen Travel medical insurance – to cover any expenses that might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention and/or emergency hospital treatment or death during your stay in the territory of the Schengen countries. The insurance must be valid throughout the territory of the Schengen countries and cover the entire period of intended stay or transit. The minimum coverage is EUR 30,000
    8. Business/conference/sports event/visiting family or friends: a guarantee letter certified by a Slovenian administrative unit
    9. Medical reasons: a medical certificate and details the treatment needed
    10. Study visit: official documents from the receiving and sending institutions and a letter of guarantee certified by a Slovenian administrative unit
    11. Proof of funds – bank statements for the past six months and salary slips
    12. Confirmed hotel reservation
    13. Invitation letter if being invited by a person, company or events organizer (if applicable)
    14. Prepaid envelope such as Fedex or Canada Post (Express Post) with your address in case your passport must be mailed back to you

    4. Travel insurance only covers 25,000 Euros – the travel insurance must cover at least 30,000 Euros to be acceptable
