    Step 5: Receive your visa

When a decision has been reached, you can pick up your passport from the consular office at the embassy.

    The decision will be either:

    1. Approved – your visa will be inside your passport. You should check the visa for any errors. If you find any errors, you must notify the consular office immediately. If you do not do so, the embassy bears no responsibility for any problems you may have with your trip
    2. Rejected – this would have been for a specific reason and you can appeal the decision

    Common rejection reasons include:

    1. No invitation letter – if you are being invited to Greece by a person or company, you must provide an invitation letter
    2. It looks like you can’t afford the trip – you must prove that you can support yourself financially on your trip, therefore, your bank statements or other documents should show this
    3. Your passport was issued over 10 years ago – this makes your passport invalid, so you must obtain a new one before applying for your visa
    4. You already have a valid Schengen visa – if you have previously applied for a Schengen visa and it was approved, it may still be valid, so check this before applying for a new one
