In 2021, 207,470 visa applications were received by embassies around the world. 6,916 (3.3%) were rejected. The embassy in New Delhi received 273 applications and rejected 107 (39.3).
Applying for a Czech Republic Schengen Visa from India
To apply for a Czech Republic visa, you must either be a citizen of India or have a legal right to reside in the county.
You can apply for your visa up to 6 months in advance of your trip at the earliest and 15 days at the latest. Visa applications are usually processed in 15 days, however, it could take longer if further checks are required. It is strongly recommended that you apply at least 3 weeks prior to departure.
The Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi processes visa applications, but you will submit your application to VFS Global which has offices in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Puducherry, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram.
Applicants legally residing in India shall apply at any VFS Global visa application center. In particular cases (e.g. service passport holders, family members of EU citizens), the application can be lodged directly at the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi.
Types of Schengen visas offered at The Embassy of the Czech Republic in India
There are different types of visas available and the one you need to apply for depends on the reason you are traveling to the Czech Republic.
- Short-term (Schengen) visa – for trips up to 90 days for tourism, visiting family/friends etc.

Step 1 – Identify visa type

Step 2 – Begin your application
The next step is to begin your application. Go to “step 2” and click on the link to download the visa application form:

Step 3 – Book an appointment
Making appointments with the embassy, consulate or visa application center is generally free and can be done yourself. Step 4 – Pay your fees
Visa fees are paid when you submit your application. These fees are payable in the local currency and they are non-refundable. Applications lodged at VFS Global can be paid in cash only.

Step 5 – Visit a visa application center
On the day of your appointment:
- Aim to arrive 15 minutes before your appointment
- You must attend the appointment for your visa application. You cannot send someone in your place
- Only applicants and one parent/caregiver accompanying a child under 18 years are permitted to enter the offices of VFS Global
- Bring a printed copy of your visa application, 2D barcoded sheets (2 copies), passport bio page (2 copies), as well as a valid passport or travel document with at least 2 pages that are blank on both sides
- Bring all supporting documentation (originals and copies)
- If you haven’t paid your visa fee online, you can pay your fees once you get to the center
- You will also need to submit your fingerprints and photograph. This is known as biometric information collection and without this, your visa application will not be processed
- If you miss your appointment on the scheduled day, you will need to book a new appointment after 24 hours from your original appointment date.
You may also be asked questions about your trip. If this happens, don’t worry, just answer as truthfully as you can. Example questions include:

- What do you know about the Czech Republic?
- Are you traveling with anyone?
- How will you pay for your trip?

Step 6 – Track your application
You can track your application by going to “step 6 – track your application” and clicking on the link:

Step 7 – Collect your passport
After a visa application decision has been made, you can pick up your documents from VFS Global or have your documents returned to you by courier for an additional fee. If you are collecting your documents, remember to take the receipt issued by VFS Global and your ID. Please check with VFS Global for the options available to collect your documents when you submit your application.
The decision will be either:
- Accepted – you will find your visa attached to one of the pages in your passport
- Rejected – your application may be rejected for a number of reasons and you will be notified why your application was denied and you have the right to appeal the decision. Please see the embassy’s website about how to do this
Reasons for a rejected application include:
- Missing documents – you must provide all relevant documents. Check what is required before applying
- Application form not signed – please check that you have signed the application form before submitting everything to VFS Global
- Passport out of date – your passport should be valid for at least 3 months after the date of your return to India. If not, you should apply for a new one before applying for your visa
- You have overstayed on a visa before – if this is the case, the embassy will look into the reasons why this happened and it could affect your chances of getting a new visa

Documents Required
Check VFS Global’s or the embassy’s website to find out what documents you need to submit along with your visa application. If you forget anything, it could lead to a rejected application.
You should also submit photocopies along with original documents.
Documents include:
- A fully completed and signed application form
- Valid passport – issued within the last 10 years and valid for 3 months past return date with 2 empty pages
- Two recent (not older than six months) passport-size photo (see full photograph specifications)
- Proof of means of transport: flight ticket reservations to and from Schengen area
- Proof of lodging: hotel reservations, rental of holiday home or campus residence reservation. If the applicant intends to stay with a family member or a friend, proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation from the host
- Cover Letter signed by the applicant explaining the purpose of visit to the Czech Republic and entire travel plan (itinerary)
- Business trips – invitation letter from the inviting company or organization & cover letter from employer stating identity, purpose of the journey and period and place of intended stay
- Travel medical insurance valid for all Schengen–countries. The insurance has to cover the applicant for at least 30,000 EUR or equivalent, for all risks e.g. accident, illness, medical emergency evacuation etc
- Proof of financial means – bank statement or income tax returns for the last three months /years. If employed – pay slips for the last three months; employment contract & employers statement on approval for holidays. If self-employed – certificate of the registration of the company. If sponsored – proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation
- Pension statements for the last three months
- Proof of regular income generated by ownership of property or business
- For minors – written consent certified by public notary of the other parent or guardian & copies of the passport of the parents
- For students – proof of enrolment in school or university.
- Clear photocopy of first and last page of the passport and at least two Schengen visas, if applicable
- Proof of entry/registration if attending or taking part in events
