    Switzerland Schengen Visa Application Requirements

However, if this is your first Schengen visa, you must attend the interview in person.

On the day of your appointment, arrive at the Swiss consulate in New York early. This will give you a few extra minutes to check you have everything and to think about anything extra they may ask you. Dress appropriately too. Making a good impression is your aim and dressing the part will help with this.

During the appointment, you may be asked additional questions. This is quite normal, so don’t worry. The official only wishes to confirm the information that you have stated, so just answer them honestly and be confident with your answers. Typical visa interview questions could be:

    1. Have you ever been to Switzerland before?
    2. Is this your first time abroad?
    3. Do you know anyone in the Schengen area?
    4. What’s your salary?
    5. Will you be doing business in Switzerland?

Don’t jeopardize your Schengen visa interview at the last minute. Use this comprehensive and thorough visa interview guide to crack the visa interview!

    Visa Interview Guide

On the appointment day, you also have to pay the relevant Schengen visa fee:

    Schengen Visa Fee

Adults (over 12 years old )

    Children (6-11 years old)

    Children (younger than 6)

Spouses and children of Swiss and EU/EFTA nationals; CERN and UN personnel (official trips only); students who study in Switzerland for only up to 90 days

Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Moldova, Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia

The fee can be paid online when you complete your online application or by money order if you are sending the application by mail. The money order should be payable to Consulate General of Switzerland, New York. You also have the option of paying by Master or Visa card, exact cash or money order if presenting your application in person.

    Step 4: Receive your visa

When the visa has been processed, you have the option to collect it from the consulate or have it mailed back to you. Hopefully, your new Swiss visa will be attached to your visa, but it may have been refused for any number of reasons. If it is refused you have the right to appeal. Some reasons why a Schengen visa may be refused are:

    1. False travel documents
    2. Employment and financial means don’t match
    3. Passport does not have 2 free pages
    4. No travel tickets for tours
    5. Invalid travel insurance
    6. Passport has active Schengen visa

If you want your visa to be approved, pay attention to the requirements. Under no circumstances, present a fake travel document – you will be found out! Make sure all your documents are in order and the information is consistent. Have the necessary health cover and ensure you include information regarding any tours you may be going on. Most importantly, know whether you have applied for a Schengen visa before and whether you still have one that is valid.
