- Visa application form – to be electronically registered, completed, dated and signed
- Passport/travel document – valid for at least 3 months after the intended date of departure from Latvia; contain at least 2 blank pages; issued within the previous 10 years
- Proof of legal residence in the US and valid re-entry document – residence card (Green Card) or valid US resident visa type A, E, F (with endorsed I-20), G, H, I, J plus J1 documents, L, O, R. Must be valid for 3 months past upcoming trip. Please note, if you hold a B1/B2 you must apply from your own country
- 2 passport size biometric photographs (photo requirements);
- Schengen Travel medical insurance – coverage with a minimum of €30,000 ($50.000) for trips outside the US valid for Latvia and other Schengen countries. Must cover repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention and/or emergency hospital treatment or death. The policy must end 14 days after your trip
- Proof of sufficient financial means – last 3 bank account statements or proof of regular income e.g. last 3 pay slips or student loan agreement. A minimum of $35 per day is required to cover travel expenses in Latvia
- Proof of residence – driver’s license or utility bill
- Letter of invitation from private individual or company including ID/residence permit of inviting party
- Hotel booking and full itinerary
- Round trip ticket or ticket reservation
- Work permit and/or certificate of employment
- Enrollment letter or other proof of admission into university etc.
- Letter from employer confirming employment and purpose of your trip

Step 3: Submit your file
When you go to the consulate in Los Angeles to submit your file, remember the following things:
- Take your application and all the supporting documents with you

If this is your first time applying for a Schengen visa, you will have to provide biometric data (fingerprints and photograph). If you have applied previously, within a 5 year period, your data can be reused.
Step 4: Receive your visa
When the consulate has reached a decision about your Latvia visa application, you will be notified and you have 2 choices:
- Collect your passport from their office
- Have your passport returned by FedEx. There will be an additional cost of $12 if you choose this option

- You have applied for the wrong category of visa – you must apply for the correct visa. - Lack of funds – you must be able to afford your trip and you can prove this with the documents you provide, i.e bank statements
- Invalid passport – your passport must be valid (see above requirements). If it isn’t, then you must obtain a new one before applying for your visa
- There was no itinerary – you must provide ALL the required documents for your visa application and a full itinerary of your plans is one of them
You have submitted a manual application form – when you apply for your Latvia visa, you must register and complete your application using the consulate’s online system
