    3. Receive flight itinerary in email

3 Steps to make flight reservation without payment

Step 4: Submit your file for processing

When your appointment day arrives, you need to go to the Italian consulate in Detroit to submit your application for processing. You must arrive on time or, even better, a little early. If you miss your appointment, you may have to reschedule.

Please do not forget anything either. If there is anything missing, the consulate will not be able to reach a decision and you will have to reschedule to a time when you can provide everything they require.

Another handy tip is to dress smartly. By doing so, it will convey a positive message to the visa staff.

You may be asked extra questions if the staff wish to clarify anything. Just answer them truthfully and don’t get annoyed by this.

    1. How much pension do you get?
    2. What are your plans after you return?
    3. What did you say your mother does?
    4. What do you know about Italy and the Schengen Zone?
    5. What does your company do?

Don’t jeopardize your Schengen visa interview at the last minute. Use this comprehensive and thorough visa interview guide to crack the visa interview!

The correct fee for your visa will need to be paid at the time of submitting your application. You can pay by cashier’s check or money order payable to the Consulate of Italy in Detroit. This fee is non-refundable.

The last thing you may have to do is to provide biometric data which includes fingerprints and your photograph.

    Step 5: Receive your visa

When a decision regarding your application has been made, you can collect your passport from the consulate. If you unable to do this, you can ask for it to be mailed back. However, you will need to provide them with a pre-paid, self-addressed with a tracking number. You can only have it returned through USPS Express Mail or Priority Mail.

Your application should have been accepted and you’ll find it in your passport. But, it may have been denied for any number of reasons:

    1. Dates of documents and trip don’t match
    2. Passport has pages missing
    3. Travel itineraries not provided
    4. Travel insurance does not cover Schengen area
    5. Holding an active Schengen visa
    6. Applying for the incorrect visa

Firstly, make sure you apply for the correct visa, so check the consulate’s website before you book your appointment. Also, if you have applied for a previous Schengen visa, this may still be valid. If your passport is damaged in any way, you must get a new one before beginning the visa application process. You must provide all the required documents, the information must match, and the travel insurance should meet the prerequisites.
