    In 2018, embassies and consulates around the world received 662,902 Czech Republic visa applications. 31,206 (4.7%) were rejected. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in London received 2,356 applications and rejected 19 (0.8%).

    If you were born in the United Kingdom and you wish to go to the Czech Republic, you do NOT need a visa. However, if you were not born in the UK, but you live there on a permanent basis, you DO need to apply for a Czech Republic visa.

    You have to make sure you apply at the right Czech embassy and consulate. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in London has outsourced some types of visa applications to VFS Global, but it is the embassy that processes the applications and makes the final decision about your visa.

    You will apply to the following visa offices:

    1. Short-stay visas – submit your application to VFS Global in London
    2. Long-stay visas – submit your application directly to the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London

    Types of Schengen Visas Offered at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London

    There are different types of visas you can apply for and the one you need will depend on the duration of your trip and your reason for travelling to the Czech Republic:

    1. Short-term visa (up to 90 days)this visa is for the purposes of tourism, business, visiting family or friends, cultural, sports, medical reasons, study, airport transit etc
    2. Long-term visa (over 90 days)this visa is for the purposes of medical, employment, cultural, family, invitation, business, sports, study etc. If you are applying for this type of visa, you may need to apply for a residence permit too. For further information, check the embassy’s website

    When you apply for your visa, you can specify how many times you can enter the country within the dates of your visa. Visas are usually issued as:

    1. Single entry – you can enter one time only
    2. Double entry – you can enter twice
    3. Multiple entry – you can enter the country as many times as you like

    Schengen Visa Application Process at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London

    Visa applications can be made at any time from 3 months to 15 days (no later than 15 days) ahead of your planned trip. Applications are processed within 15 days, however, some applications could take longer. Appointments can only be made 30 days from the date you register, so bear that in mind. It’s recommended that you apply at least 45 days in advance of your trip.

    Applications for long-term visas take between 60 and 120 days to process.

    Step 1: Make an appointment

    Making appointments with the embassy or visa application center is generally free and can be done yourself.     You can also make an appointment on your own by following the steps below

    The first step is to make an appointment in order to submit your application to VFS or the embassy.

    For short-term visas:

    1. Go to VFS Global’s website and click on: “Schedule an appointment”
    2. You will need to register as a new user if you have never used the system before
    3. Log in
    4. Choose a convenient day and time for your appointment
    1. You will receive an email confirming your appointment
    2. Print the appointment letter which you need to take to VFS Global when you attend your appointment

    For long-term visas:

    Request an appointment for a long-term visa by sending an email to longstay.london@mzv.cz. The subject of the email should be your surname and purpose of requested visa (Please note, this email address is for bookings only and no queries will be answered. For enquires please use: visa.london@embassy.mzv.cz)

    You need to include the following information in the email:

    1. Full name
    2. Date of birth
    3. Passport number
    4. Phone number and email address
    5. Purpose of stay or type of residence permit/visa requested
    6. Scan of documents proving purpose if stay in the Czech Republic (PDF only)
    7. Scan of your passport’s data page (PDF only)

    Step 2: Complete your application form 

    Step 2 is to complete your application. Go to VFS Global’s website and scroll down to: “Downloads” and you will find the link for the short-stay visa application form:

    For the long-term visa application form, go to the embassy’s website and click on: “Visa and consular”:

    Scroll down to “Other visa information” and click on number 9 – “Visa application form”:

    You will be directed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic where you will find the application form to download and complete:

    Step 3: Prepare your documents

    You need to know what documents you need to prepare, so it’s a good idea to check the requirements before you start. You can find this information on VFS Global’s website and the embassy’s website.

    You need to submit originals as well as photocopies of everything, so remember to do this too!

    Documents include:

    1. Visa application form (original)
    2. Original, signed passport, at least 2 blank pages for visa purposes, must be valid for at least 90 days beyond the return date of the trip to the Schengen Area and has to be issued within the last 10 years
    3. Photocopies of previous Schengen visas endorsed in an old passport and/or issued in the last 3 years, if applicable
    4. UK Residence permit, endorsed in the passport or issued as a Biometrics card, must be valid for at least 90 days beyond your trip
    5. Photograph (original) (see here for acceptable photos)
    6. Employer letter and last 3 months payslips
    7. Student letter from UK university/college/school letter confirming enrollment
    8. Self-employment letter confirming details of self-employment, last tax return and registration of business
    9. Proof of unemployment or pension benefits/income OR a letter explaining your financial situation
    10. If being sponsored by your spouse/partner – marriage certificate (original + copy) (translated into English or Czech, if applicable), spouse/partner’s passport, proof of occupation, proof of funds and a cover letter confirming sponsorship
    11. Proof of funds – latest 3 months UK current account bank statements or traveller’s cheques showing a minimum amount of £30 per day in the Schengen Area + outstanding accommodation and travel fees (alternatively online bank account printouts are also accepted)
    12. Confirmed return travel tickets with your name and travel dates to and from the Schengen Area and payment confirmation/receipt if you have paid through a travel agency. Note that Embassies in UK may require actual fully paid tickets for the visa application and not the flight reservation based on the jurisdiction you live in. So double check the embassy requirements within your jurisdiction before submitting the documents for visa application.
    13. Confirmed hotel or other accommodation
    14. If you are visiting more than 1 Schengen State, you also need to provide a complete itinerary showing dates and accommodation details
    15. Schengen Travel insurance (all-risk medical travel insurance) valid throughout the complete territory of the Schengen Area and must cover the entire period of the applicant’s intended stay in the Schengen Area; minimum coverage for medical emergency and repatriation must be €30,000
    16. Minors – birth certificate and consent of parents with a copy of parent’s passport
    17. Medical report
    18. Invitation/ticket for congress, expo, conference, seminar etc
    19. Confirmation about cultural/sports activities in the Czech Republic
    20. Acceptance letter from the school, registration letter
    21. A work/residence permit

    If you’re planning to obtain your flight reservation for visa without paying for the ticket, all you have to do is follow the 3 simple steps below:

    1. Visit the Visa Reservation website to choose the right package
    2.  Submit the travel details and make the payment online
    3. Receive flight itinerary in email

    Step 4: Submit your file

    On the day of your appointment;

    1. Arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled appointment
    2. Dress smartly
    3. Remember all your documents
    4. You will be issued a token and directed to the waiting area
    5. You will be called to the submission counter where your application and supporting documents will be reviewed
    6. Your biometric information will be taken
    7. Your photograph and passport checked to make sure they are valid
    8. You will be issued a receipt for the fees and service charge paid

    After your appointment, VFS Global will send your application to the embassy in London for processing. If the embassy needs any further information or documentation from you, they may ask you to attend an interview. They could ask you questions like:

    1. Are you travelling alone to the Schengen area?
    2. What tours are you going on in the Czech Republic?
    3. What do you know about the country you are visiting?
    4. How will you pay for your trip?
    5. Has your employer approved your leave?

    If you are asked any questions, just answer truthfully. The embassy needs all the facts from you in order to make a decision about your visa.

    Czech Republic Fee

    You can pay the fee by:

    1. VFS Global – cash, debit/credit card or postal order payable to Czech Republic Visa Application Centre, London
    2. The Embassy – cash or postal order payable to the Czech Embassy

    VFS Global also charge a service fee of £22.49 which is payable at the same time as the visa fee. In addition, if you want your passport to be returned to you via Special Delivery, there is a fee of £16.95.

    Please be aware that these fees are non-refundable.

    Step 5: Receive your visa

    Once your application has been submitted, you can track its progress.

    1. Go to VFS Global’s website and click on: “Track your application”:
    2. Click on the tracking link:
    3. Enter your reference number and last name:

    When a decision about your visa application has been reached, you can either:

    1. Collect your passport from the embassy/VFS Global
    2. Have your passport returned to you by mail

    There are 2 outcomes:

    1. Approved – your visa application has been accepted and you will find your visa inside your passport
    2. Refused – your visa application has been rejected for a specific reason

    Common rejection reasons include:

    1. You already have a Schengen visa – if you have previously applied for a Schengen visa and it was approved, it could still be valid, so check before you apply for a new one
    2. Proof of funds not included – you must prove that you can afford your trip, so you need to include bank statements or payslips etc
    3. Invitation letter missing – if you are being invited to the Czech Republic by a person or a company, you must provide an invitation letter
    4. False documents – whatever you do, do NOT provide the embassy with fake documents. You will be found out and it will result in the current application being rejected. It could also affect any future applications you may make
